The Mixed  Bag: Doctor Stange in the Multiverse of Madness

Doctor Strange is one of the most interesting characters in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe), and because of that when it was announced that he would be getting a second movie most marvel fans were ecstatic. The question is, did it live up to the hype it received? Well yes, and no, It has some amazing strengths but also some real weaknesses. Before the overall look into the movie, it needs to be stated that this is a movie that is worth watching and is very entertaining, the flaws of the movie do not ruin it but they are noticeable. Without further ado, let’s talk about Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is one of the hardest movies to get a feel for so far in the MCU some people really enjoyed it while others, not so much. It has very visually appealing fights. There is a fight between two magic users using music notes which was extremely creative and interesting. The direction that Sam Raimi took with this movie was amazing, you could tell where he had his creative freedom and he took full advantage of it. The horror aspects that were thrown in, the extremely interesting visuals, and the use of magic is amazing. When Sam is given unrestricted creative freedom in the movie it is at its best . Doctor Strange also has amazing character development in the movie as he faces a lot of the problems that have been lingering over him since Endgame. He comes out of this movie a new person and it was perfect for his charter. There is also a choice that he makes at the end of the movie that really symbolizes how he has changed as a person and it was a favorite scene in the movie (at least for me).

Unfortunately, there are also some big problems with the movie as well. First, the pacing of this movie was very bad, It felt extremely rushed. There were a lot of moments that seemed as if they should have had more of an emotional impact but it just did not because of the poor pacing in this movie. It was also very dependent on the viewer having watched the shows and movies that came prior to Doctor Strange, which would usually be ok with a marvel movie but it feels as though it may have made the script worse. On the topic of the script, it was the messiest script I have ever seen from a Marvel movie. It felt extremely rushed and really weak compared to most Marvel movies. This poor script led to one of the most important characters in the movie being treated more like a plot mover than an actual person which also made the movie feel much less enjoyable than it could have been. America Chavez was used as a thing to drive the plot forward, something to protect and that’s really it. We never got to see her as a person really. We were given tidbits of a backstory but that’s it there was nothing else given about her and that made it hard to really root for her.

The newest installment of Doctor strange was definitely a fun movie that you should go and wand watch for yourself The movie was entertaining and was an enjoyable experience but it is really hard to ignore its flaws, unfortunately. There is a lot to like about this movie but also a lot to dislike. There will be repercussions for Doctor Strange’s actions in this movie and the MCU will feel it in the very near future.
