This past year has ranked in the top 10 for most “perfume-obsessed” on social media. Many people shared their favorite perfumes and recommendations for all perfume lovers across all social media platforms, especially “TikTok.” So let’s review 5 of the most notable perfumes of 2023 based on their notes, cost, and practicality.
The must notable scent of 2023 was the Baccarat Rouge 540, by Maison Francis Kurkdjian. This scent gained immense popularity on TikTok for its seductive alluring nature. Coming in at a price range from $325-$645, Baccarat Rouge 540 contains notes of; saffron, jasmine, amberwood, ambergris, fir risen, and cedar to create a woody yet metallic scent that lingers on the mind of those around the wearer. Although this scent is a delicious combination of unique ingredients making it perfect for almost any person, it is seemingly impractical for a day-to-day scent. Perhaps you enjoy that strength during the whole day- then this is for you! But if you rather not spend the price tag on Baccarat Rouge for an everyday scent, maybe this one should be saved for special occasions.
To take quite the turn, another scent that made headlines this year was Sol de Janeiro, Brazillian Crush Cheriosa ‘62, this sweet warm scent became revolutionary for a more juvenile crowd. Not necessarily a perfume… This body mist has notes of; pistachio, almond, heliotrope, jasmine, caramel, vanilla, salt, and sandalwood curating a delicious and flavorful scent almost good enough to eat. This is exactly what makes this scent so juvenile, perfect for an everyday body mist for someone who loves smelling like a dessert! People have become so obsessed with this scent purchasing all other products with the same scent. Sol de Janeiro offers several other scents that are popular, but none have sold as much as good old ‘62, especially at a decent price point of $24.
On a lighter note, warm and boozy scents were not the only ones turning heads this year… Dior Miss Dior compounds all things floral and powdery for a price of $55-$100 with notes of; Sicilian mandarin, pink peony, damask rose, apricot, peach, and white musk. Although florals are not my taste, I can see the appeal for the people who enjoy a daily floral scent. Although the price is not cheap for the ounces you get, the practicality and worthiness of the scent leave it on the cheaper side compared to some other perfumes.
Huda Beauty Kayali has created several popular scents this past year but once more, a sweet gourmand scent takes the cake- a common theme this year huh? Kayali Vanilla 28 is a woody vanilla composed of vanilla orchid, jasmine, brown sugar, tonka bean, amber, amberwood, musk, and patchouli. This makes this vanilla less sickly and cakey and more woody or seductive. Finding the perfect vanilla can be hard, but this one stands out from the rest making it a unique scent that will keep people asking what you’re wearing! Prices ranging from $42-$138. This reasonably priced scent makes vanilla all the more fun.
For a more unisex option, let’s opt for a scent that has been popular for more years than just the last. Glossiers, You, is a scent different for everybody- smells different for everybody that is. This unique scent is something unable to be described as “floral” or “gourmand” due to its unique combination of pink pepper, iris, ambrette, and ambroxan to create a ‘your skin but better’ perfume. Some people hate it when it is first sprayed, but love it on their skin. I receive a ton of compliments when I wear this scent contrary to my mild distaste for it. This scent is extremely versatile, and affordable, coming in at $68. An easy everyday scent, Glossier You ranks popular among most people
Perfume, what a lovely thing for all to bond over. Especially after such a great year for sweet scents, mature scents, and versatile scents. Let 2024 bring in a spritz of fragrance, renewed or newfound.
