In a stunning display of skill and determination, Mason Ziegler emerges as the unexpected hero, propelling the school wrestling team’s success and breaking the longstanding record of all-time wins in an electrifying match that has left the community buzzing with excitement. The Lehigh University commit has elapsed an incredible 155 wins overall in his high school wrestling career so far with more to come as states rapidly approach. When we discussed this great achievement, Ziegler said “It’s pretty cool to have the record for the most wins, and it was possible through lots of hard work.”
Mason Ziegler has been working extremely hard for this accomplishment from such a young age. He started out wrestling for the Quakertown youth program. This program in recent years has done a great job pumping out talent as they have produced numerous boys who have placed at the state level. One of them is Collin Gaj, a state champion who has wrestled for the national team and recently committed to wrestle division one at Virginia Tech. Ziegler’s father has guided him throughout his journey coaching him for his whole career. His father, Dan Ziegler, is the assistant coach for the Quakertown wrestling team and previously helped with coaching Strayer Middle School when his son attended it.
With the Pennsylvania State Championship being in a few weeks, Ziegler aims to go a step further than he did last season and finally grab that coveted state championship. When asked about what goal he desires to accomplish the most this season, he responded, “I just want to be a Pennsylvania state champ, that’s been a goal for a while and I haven’t achieved it yet so that’s what I’m going for.”Unfortunately, last season he finished as the runner-up, losing in his final match to the eventual state champion, Cael Nasdeo, of Williamsport High School. With a record of 38-3 so far this season, Ziegler is a favorite to win a title in the 127-pound division and has dominated his competition with ease so far; seeking redemption. The majority of his matches have ended in either a tech fall or a pin. To reach this goal, he does extra practice with a wrestling club in addition to his dedication to the Quakertwon wrestling program. His “club coaches, high school coaches, and [his] buddies on the wrestling team” are to whom he owes his success as they have pushed him to be his best.
Not too long ago Ziegler announced he would be wrestling division one at the college level for Lehigh University. One of his teammates at Quakertown, Calvin Lachman, has also committed to the university; the two will get to experience the next level together and support each other throughout. These two have been wrestling with each other since a young age and are now graduating together at the end of this school year. Ziegler speaks highly of the school, noting that it’s “great, the coaching staff is phenomenal, and they have a top 15 wrestling team. It’s the perfect fit for [him] and it’s close to home.” Once his college wrestling journey is complete, he plans to earn a finance degree at Lehigh and eventually start his own business one day
Mason Ziegler can be seen as an inspiration to all the kids in the Quakertown community who wish to become as successful as he has. Ziegler had lots of looks up to various wrestlers who have inspired his style: “too many to count.” His advice to any up-and-coming wrestlers, as he once was, is to “work hard and don’t be afraid to fail”.
