Quakertown Community High School students learned about every extracurricular activity the school offers at the third annual Club and Sports Fair, held on September 6.
The event allowed students to sign up for clubs and sports as they browsed various booths, spoke with club leaders and coaches, and discovered new opportunities to get involved and expand their high school experience.
Guidance counselor Patricia Sabol said this day makes her so happy because she gets to see students pursue what they love and run something important and exciting for everyone. “I love this day,” Sabol said.
Principal Mattias Van’t Hoenderdaal shared similar thoughts.
“We have data to show that students who are meaningfully connected to the school do better academically,” Van’t Hoenderdaal said. “We started doing this after COVID and we have had great success.”
Students get to walk around during their allotted time and talk to representatives of each club. From a club representative perspective, the club fair is doing amazing things.
“The club fair exposes people to new clubs,” said Erika Marks from the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Marks and her partner, Alec Caccavo, shared how the club fair has benefited them and their club.
“The club fair brings the opportunity to join a new club,” Caccavo said, adding that the fair has brought them many new members.
Anastasia, a freshman at Quakertown Community High School shares her thoughts.
Many feel that the event has the most impact on freshman students by giving them a chance to explore their options and meet new people for the first time.
“I enjoy the club fair because I get to see all the clubs and people’s interests and get to learn about my own interests,” she said.
Her friend, Keira’s, also a freshman, shared similar thoughts about the event.
“I’ve got to see all the new opportunities I have this year,” says Keira.
Students including a senior, Jess Meirinho, share positive experiences.
“The club fair is a good way to introduce clubs and sports to freshmen and other students,” Meirinho said.
