Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is a fashion show held every year by the Victoria’s Secret brand. It dates back to 1995 and has become rather popular. People all over the world watch and are amazed by the beauty, the style, and the entertainment. A lot of things have changed in the last few years. Victoria’s Secret has also lost many viewers and some of their beauty. Why were people disappointed in the 2024 fashion show? How did they lose their glamor?

For starters, let’s talk about some things they included in the older fashion shows that everyone loved. The invited singers were a fan favorite, every year waiting to see who would perform and what songs they would sing. Victoria’s Secret would invite singers like Justin Beiber or Ariana Grande, to perform while the models walk the runway. Fans think the organization overall is also pretty impressive. An article from Tribune says “The event also became a platform for emerging supermodels and A-list performers, from Beyonce to Taylor Swift, amplifying its allure.” Admirers got to see new models on the runway for the first time, allowing emerging supermodels to show off Victoria’s Secret and their clothes. In the early 2000’s the show also featured star models like Tyra Banks and Heidi Klum who soon became interchangeable with Victoria’s Secret “Angel” Status. The “Angel” status is a prestigious title among models. Only those who work with the Victoria’s Secret brand and regularly participate in the fashion shows can earn the title. Throughout all of Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show history, only 40 models have gotten the “Angel” title, including former and current models.

However, things started to change. The show was discontinued in 2019 due to criticism of the brand’s image and lack of diversity. Rachel Treisman said in an NPR article “But executives canceled it in 2019, as the fashion industry grappled with a backlash amid the body positivity, transgender rights and #MeToo movements.” In 2024 though, they decided to bring it back because they realized their fans missed seeing them annually. They also brought it back since the company said that its values had shifted, promising a better show than the last one. Once

the fashion show was released on October 15, people saw that the outfits weren’t as creative and that some models had their hair in a slicked-back ponytail, where was their iconic blowout? Many admirers were disappointed in the show. Fans thought it was bland, and they expected more after six years of the show being discontinued. The main reason why people did not enjoy it is that the company had promised that the 2024 event would “reflect who we are today, plus everything you know and love — the glamor, runway, wings, musical entertainment, and more!” However, people saw that to be untrue. models and performers looked stunning, the outfits themselves were underwhelming compared to the show’s former glory days” Many people were disappointed in the 2024 VS Fashion Show, there was no uniqueness to it, and it overall looked cheap compared to the past ones. Admirers compared the clothes to those of the cheap brand named Shein. Plus, where were all the big, voluminous blowouts? There is a good chance that newer fans thought it was good because they hadn’t watched the previous ones. Hopefully, for upcoming shows, they find something new to make their fashion shows just a little more unique and identifiable to their brand. Overall, the shows were much more popular in the early 2000’s than now in the 2020’s.
