In the back math hallway of Quakertown Community High School, a new office opened up at the start of this school year, offering itself as a “Future Readiness Center”. Using the newly adopted RIASEC system, the FRC has set its sights on combating students’ unease about the futures they face after graduation.
“The Future Readiness Center is made to help students figure out the next phase of their life.” Mr. Gozzard, the Future Readiness Coordinator comments on the topic. “Using that RIASEC system to apply skills…to apply to future possible careers.”
The pamphlet for the FRC boasts a claim of “hundreds of student meetings a year”. All times of the day you can see Mr. Gozzard talk with students about their grades, their futures and a variety of other topics in relation to the path they want to take.
The United States Educational System is often the target of plenty of criticism for a myriad of reasons. A common one is the pressure it puts on teenagers and students over the future paths they plan on taking. According to the American Institute of Stress, nearly 45% of students report above average anxieties and depressive emotions. The FRC’s goal is to push against that anxiety by setting up plans with students for their futures so they are not nearly as lost while moving through the maze.
And it’s not just about colleges either, the FRC can help with any goal students might aim for. They offer assistance for trade and tech schools, military applications or those aiming to join the workforce. “If somebody’s feeling like they want a more hands on career, I tell them to look into apprenticeships.” Gozzard remarks.
The office is open to any student, and welcomes any path a student may want to take into the workforce or a higher education.
